For more than 40 years, Taiwan's manufacturers have been quietly making world-class plumbing and bathroom fixtures. In recent years, the industry has been facing fierce competition from undercutting rivals in mainland China. Believing that the bottom-line to global success is product differentiation, The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) instructed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to team-work with Taiwan-based pluming fixture makers. For the first time a formal trade association has been formed to systematically sharpen the industry's competitive edge globally. With a year or two, the ITRI's Mechanical and Systems Research Laboratories (MRL) unveiled several crucial water-handling technologies, and helped the association design common brands and co-promote logos.
