Taiwan’s PMC Creates 20%+ Energy-Saving Capacity for Machine Tools
Energy saving and carbon reduction to lessen global warming has become a worldwide goal. From the formulation and implementation of all kinds of global environmental protection measures such as Kyoto Protocol, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE), Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) and Energy Using Product Directive (EUP), to the UN climate change conference held in Copenhagen, countries around the world have already taken a step further to put into effect the ideals and agenda of environmental protection.Taiwan’s PMC Creates 20%+ Energy-Saving Capacity for Machine Tools
To go with the market trend of energy saving and meet the demand of Taiwan’s machine tool and related industries, the Precision Machinery Research & Development Center (PMC) of Taiwan has been actively researching and developing high-efficiency, energy-saving technologies to assist domestic manufacturers to upgrade their products. There are three areas of the development of PMC’s machine tool energy-saving technologies: (1) information and communication technologies’ and “intelligent” software; (2) “innovative” materials; and (3) applications of high-efficacy components.
PMC has already completed the development of the new energy-saving technologies of load cutting, hydraulic mold set, heat-dissipating pipe, and PM motors, which can save over 20% of the electricity exhaustion for general machine tools. Load-cutting energy-saving capacity can be as high as over 10%. In addition, currently the structural components of machine tools are mostly made by cast iron, the production process of which is very energy-consuming. PMC as a result has successfully developed man-made granite to replace cast iron, which can save over 98% of the electricity. PMC will transfer the technologies to Taiwan’s manufacturers to fully elevate the market competitiveness of Taiwan’s machine tool and processing machine makers.
