The total domestic and overseas output value of Taiwan��s electronics industry was NT$730.5 billion in 2007. Driven by yearly growth, the added-value of the industry continues at a growing trend. Major product categories under the industry include:
Semiconductor Industry: Taiwan�s IC industry has had a history of development for over 30 years. Under active government support and efforts of manufacturers, Taiwan has become an important world base in the IC industry today. Ranked fourth in the global production for ICs, Taiwan�s IC manufacturing capability has moreover played an important role in the global semiconductor market. The IC design industry in Taiwan also achieved a remarkable growth in revenues in 2007, with the output value reaching NT$399.7 billion, a 23.6% growth from the previous year. The combined growth of IC design, IC manufacturing, IC packaging and testing, is the main factor behind the current boom of Taiwan�s electronics industry.
Motherboard Market: Beginning in 2000, Taiwan��s motherboard industry has always ranked first in sales compared with global sales, accounting for more than 70% of global market share. The market share of Taiwan��s motherboard industry exceeded 98% in 2005. In the future, sales in newly-developing markets are expected to continue in this upward trend. Especially in the domestic market of mainland China, system manufacturers have established manufacturing plants in China one after another, thus increasing the percentage of Taiwan��s motherboard selling to the mainland persistently.
Flat Panel Display Industry: In order to actively promote the growth of the flat panel display industry, the Taiwanese government has long listed the said industry in the Challenge 2008: National Development Plan and Two Trillions Double Stars Industries Development Plan. After rapid development in the past few years, the industry has especially attracted many famous foreign businesses to invest in Taiwan��s key components and parts.
