Taiwan’s Wooden & Bamboo Products: Traditional Crops Show Renewing Power
Taiwan’s wooden and bamboo-product industries utilize wood and bamboo to make them into high-value-added daily goods, such as furniture, houseware, and handicrafts. Now even some cell phone shells and notebook computer exterior are creatively made by wooden and bamboo materials.
Because lately environmental consciousness has become increasingly wide-spread, bamboo is being used more and more to replace wooden materials to reduce lumbering and damage to forests. Bamboo’s growth period is fast, about four to six years, and it is strong, flexible, and sturdy. Besides making bamboo into all kinds of craft items, Taiwanese bamboo-product makers have also developed bamboo fiber/carbon goods. In other words, the industry has successfully renewed the power of traditional crops.
